Trick-or-treating: done. Pumpkins: carved. The kids are finally asleep after a full-on sugar rush, and the house has settled into that blissful, much-needed quiet. Now what?

I don’t have the energy for chainsaw slashers, and I definitely can’t handle anything so serious I’ll be asleep in ten minutes. After a whole day of keeping everyone alive and fed, I’ve had plenty of adrenaline, thank you. Just hand me a cup of tea, turn off the lights, and put on something with atmosphere.

So here are three Halloween shows for a tired mom: a charming devil, a dark witches’ coven, and a short magical fix for one weekend. Each one leaves you missing something different when it ends.

1. Lucifer: When You Want a Show That Lasts All Fall

Six seasons means weeks of evenings, and that’s its biggest perk for a worn-out mom. There’s no stress about the story ending too soon, so you can take it one episode at a time, no rush.

Think of it as “fun Halloween”: a devil in a suit in Los Angeles, sarcasm, flirting, crime-of-the-week cases, and a supernatural twist, but nothing that makes you check the bathroom for creepers. Pure entertainment and a break after a day of nonstop decisions.

There’s a flip side, though. Lucifer pulls you in so hard that when the finale ends, you might cry for no clear reason and dig through the pantry for chocolate you don’t even like. I’ll be writing about that crash very soon.

2. Salem: When It’s Raining Outside and You Want Real Witches

This is the “hardcore Halloween” pick, in the best way: a gothic, moody show about witches in 17th-century Massachusetts, full of fog, mud, rain, and secrets. Three seasons is enough to get lost in it without drowning.

It’s perfect for the night the kids are asleep, the lights are low, and a candle is burning. It won’t scare you the way a horror movie does. You just won’t want to leave.

And here’s the interesting part: after Salem, you usually don’t cry over the characters. Instead, you feel a strange longing for the mood itself, that nightly step into another world. When the screen goes dark, real life feels flat and gray. It’s a completely different kind of show hangover than Lucifer.

3. Agatha All Along: A Quick, Magical Fix With No Commitment

One short season, nine episodes, and you can finish it in a weekend or a handful of evenings. Witches, schemes, humor, and a great fall vibe, with no multi-year commitment.

It’s perfect when you don’t have the energy for an 80-hour marathon but still want something intriguing with a real ending. Bonus: it’s a WandaVision spin-off, so if you like returning to familiar faces in a new story, it’ll feel like coming home.

There’s just one downside: it’s so short that you barely settle into the autumn mood before it’s over. You’re left with that “wait, that’s it? What do I do with myself now?” feeling.

Which One Should You Pick?

  • Lucifer if you want something light that lasts all season.
  • Salem if you want darkness, fog, and a candle.
  • Agatha All Along if you’ve got one weekend and a craving for magic.

Halloween isn’t only about costume parades and class parties. It’s also about that one quiet hour when a mom can sneak off into another world, no guilt attached.

What are you watching on these October nights? Tell me in the comments. I’m always happy to add more picks to the list.
